Heshima Secondary School is a public day mixed school that was started on February 2012. It was founded by the area community, under Kagoto Primary School Management Committee. The school is situated 200 meters away from Kagoto Primary School on the land and physical facilities that were formerly occupied by Kagoto Nursery School. This Nursery school was merged with another Kagoto E.C.D. centre located in Kagoto Primary School compound.
Starting of this school was necessitated by the fact that Kagoto Primary School pupils were experiencing a lot of hardships and frustrations while seeking form one admission in the few neighbouring secondary schools.
This was despite the fact that they had qualified to join secondary school.
The school started with a population of 45 students, 3 teachers, one secretary and one security officer under leadership of the Kagoto Primary School Headteacher, Mrs. Lillian Mutahi. It currently has an enrolment of 275 students who are in form one, two, three and four classes.
The name ‘Heshima’ was already in use for the surrounding housing estate and was adopted because its meaning (respect) fitted the aims of the founders.
The school is centrally located in a very densely populated area near Heshima Township.
It is 50 meters off Nakuru-Nyahururu Road on the slope of Mt. Menengai, a major tourist attraction in Nakuru County.
On 4th May, 2012 the school was officially registered with the Ministry of Education and the first principal Mr. Chege S. Njuguna was posted to the school by the Teachers Service Commission.
Beside Kagoto Primary School, there are other 7 schools within reach. This makes it a very strong student catchment area. Consequently the school is expected and projected to grow fast so as to sustain expectation of the surrounding community.
It is for this reason that a five year strategic plan has been formulated, describing what the school wishes to achieve within that period. In this plan, the situational analysis has been carried out, strategic direction given, implementation plan and finally the monitoring and evaluation framework.
